Does anybody have advice on a Teddington to Slough route? Looking on GMAP obvious route appears to be A308 out to Staines and then on to Slough.
While I am not over familiar with the A308 it does not seem like a nice road to cycle on especially during the commuter periods.

Hi trj977,

This is an area I know fairly well and cover about 3-4 times a week. So yes, I would do the A308 route to Staines too, I dont have a problem with it. Sunbury Cross round-a-bout is okay if your okay with round-a-bouts, but there is a fully cycleable subway there if you dont want to cycle it. Once you get to the fordbridge round-a-bout, I wouldnt go on the Staines By-pass, I never have, cycling that is. Instead take the first left then next right to take you along Kingston Road into Staines. Then you have two routes. One is the Stanwell Moor road to the colnbrook by-pass which you can then follow straight into slough. Not Very scenic and half way along the Stanwell moor road, there are cracks across the road every 5metres or so for about a mile, what makes the journey annoying, bumpy and stressfull. But, the route does take you past Spearmint Rhinos, if you into that sort of thing! The other way i would go would be to carry on the A308 into Old Windsor, B3021 to Datchet then up to you which road into Sluff.. Both routes, I would say are fairly well abused by speeding cars, but that nothing unusual around here!

Good luck! Let me know if you need any more help!

Thanks very much for the info. I have only used the 308 on a Sunday morning, coming the other way, and was not too impressed even then. We then changed and came in from Satines via Laleham Rd, Shepperton, Lower Sunbury etc. Nicer but a bit long winded for a regular commute.

No worries. If your not impressed I wouldnt go the Stanwell Moor/Colnbrook bypass route then. Also, the A308 part to Old Windsor from the Runnymede roundabout is a single carriageway rat run. You Could go through Egham to by pass that bit, but, you have to go up either Egham Hill or Tite Hill, and they are hills, but coming back down is fun, however, your still have to go along the Egham by pass to get there, albeit it is a dual carriageway, but your go past the Ferrari show room what always nice!

Ahhh, the B376

I ride this most days of the week (Staines-Wraysbury-Datchet-Slough)

The section from Staines to Wraysbury is very rough (I've taken to calling it 'the badlands' ) - and the recent roadworks haven't made it much better. There are big wheel-eating cracks in the road, and if you intend to ride it at night, you'll need a decent set of lights as there are no streetlights in this section. However most car drivers are excellent, and give you plenty of room.
Watch for ice buildup near the rail bridge at the other end of Wraysbury There can be a lot of traffic in Datchet, especially when a train is going through.
