Route from Stratford upon avon to Dover

Hi Guys

I am cycling to Paris via the ferry in April.

I am trying to plot a route so I can work out accomodation, I have been on google maps cycle option but it says "some parts of route may be private or not suitable for bikes"

So a quick question, what is the best tool out there for me to view a suitable route if I put start and finish in, and therefore work a point along the way to stop at

This took me 5 minutes - first draft. Click on SuA, click on Dover, few fiddles near Bicester, haven't made any effort through London.

If you live in SuA send me a PM with name and phone number - I can probably help with a route using the on-the-PC mapping that either produces a printed map at OS detail and/or gpx files for a GPS gadget.

(I did actually plot a route from here to the Channel Tunnel - I'll see if I can find it.)

The biggie is how to get round London. You could go south of it or North and get the ferry from TilBury to Gravesend. I used this in 2013 , I assume it's still running.

Have you considered the Newhaven to Dieppe ferry as an alternative. Bit closer than Dover and removes any chance of hitting London I would have thought.

What type of bike are you riding?

The reason I ask is you may be able to use canal paths and tracks if you have the correct tyres. It can make a big difference to the planning.

Are you looking for quickest or quietest route?

That's a bit of a long way round - there's an excellent route that crosses the NE corner of London inside the M25 - good canal paths in the busy bits N of the river - Greenwich foot tunnel and then out through SE London and into Kent - much shorter.

Well [Edit: please] plot it then and let's have a link [edit: then we can see the detail and benefit from your detailed knowledge - I did have a look to see where you meant but could not identify the line. Rather like the even straighter line via the Gravesend ferry.]
