me and my partner have a few days off together in 2 weeks and both love cycling so are looking to go away for a few days. we live in derby and wont be using a car, we'll both just have our bags with a few clothes and essentials and just be cycling visiting places. so can anyone recommend anywhere nice to stop and visit or recommend somewhere nice to stay? any ideas would be appreciated:smile:

Welcome to the forum :welcome:. Think you might increase the applicability of the advice you receive if you specify (exactly) how many days ("a few") and how far you think you might wish to cycle each day. As an aside observe that most people coming to this topic will not be expecting it to be about somewhere to cycle starting in Derby - more about nice bikes.

As Ajax Bay says... so I have moved the thread into Touring and Expedition and edited the title...
- hope this is OK, @ceecycles

Living in Derby you have one great option - the Pennine Cycleway starts at Derby railway station and makes its way over approximately 300 miles to Berwick on Tweed.

It's a wonderful route, well signed and with plenty of accommodation options along the way.

I did it in 6 days and then caught the train home.

Just be aware it gets tough for one day around Holmemoss, Holmfirth etc. Not helped by pouring rain the day I was there!

Were you loaded with panniers? Any problem barriers? Derby to Colne might be handy for me sometime..

I'd ride to Ashbourne (there is a cycle route that avoids the main road) and get onto the Tissington/High Peak trails. If you've got an O/S map of the Peak District National Park you'll have a blast, lovely cycling up there.

Lincoln isn't too far away either if you want a nice ride for a day....I did that for a nice day's ride last weekend from Loughborough.

I can't remember any barriers but this was ten years ago!! I tour very light so two small panniers and small top bag. One of those top bags with panniers which pull down from the side. Nothing else.
