Rub rub rub went my thighs

It's been a while since I last cycled, and I have just started commuting again.

I will be honest, I have put a bit of weight on since I last cycled. I am finding my groin is red, and raw after cycling just 20 minutes or so.

I am using lycra bib tights, with nothing underneath. I sometimes get this issue running too, or playing rugby after fresh shaving. But I'm not fresh shaved, and this is now only from cycling!

Any advice on products to use to stop this, as I don't want to be propositioned while I am walking around, as it looks like I have a very different weekend hobby.

2 things-
Chamois cream to reduce the friction and ride your bike more, you'll then develop harder wearing skin at the point of contact and/or reduce the size of your thighs.

I find any kind of chamois cream helps with this. Have the same problem myself while running. I do have large thighs though.

Or the shrink the thighs advice, i could do with that one. Not quite sure how though.

20 minutes? No, that's not good. I wouldn't expect soreness even from a complete beginner in 20 minutes.

Maybe your swimsuit-area has changed enough with your weight gain that you need a different saddle. My feeling is one with a narrower nose, but I am not an expert.

Have the 'lycra bib tights' got a pad in? If not, wear cycle shorts with a pad underneath. And if doing a distance, Sudocreme.

They do have a pad in.

It's not the old bike, it is a new bike. I broke my arm, then pretty much stopped all exercise. Back to running 5k, and now back to cycling to the station for a commute.

And that's the issue, the cycling I am doing at the moment, is only 15 to 20 minutes to a train station. I can see both sides of where it is rubbing, and it is definitely skin on skin.

Skin to skin? Or skin-fabric-fabric-skin? If it's skin to skin, then you need full length tights. That's why larger ladies wear ugly leggings, even in summer, to stop chafing between their legs.

If there is fabric between the skin, then lubricant. Chamois butter if you like, but any moisturiser or hand cream or lotion should do the job for 20 minutes. I wouldn't use sudocreme because that's kind of disgusting in your clothes. Vaseline would also work, but also be disgusting.

BTW, I made my own chamois cream using this recipe. It worked very well.

They are full length tights. However, I think the rubbing is right in the groin, between sack and leg.

Can't really get fabric in there.

Try talc? Shaving? Sudocreme is thick and messy but it washes out fine, which presumably you are doing after every time you wear. If not, and if the soreness continues you might want to get checked there's not something nasty and fungal living in your nether parts and causing the soreness
