A cautionary tale
A couple of years ago I had a malignant melanoma removed (skin cancer) luckily it wasn't very deep into the skin and was caught relatively early. They took away the dodgy "mole" to start with for analysis to confirm what it was and I had to go back in to have a "wider excision" carried out - they took more flesh away where the melanoma had been. Scared the crap out of me so I'm rather more careful in the sun these days!
I had to have regular check ups for the first year after removal, one of the specialist nurses I saw said that I was only the third person with brown eyes that she had seen with a malignant melanoma. So the old adage of darker skin, darker eye colour, skin that tans etc, doesn't always mean you will be safe.
If you have a dodgy mole - very dark, jagged edges, bleeds, something that has appeared that wasn't there before, any of these - get it checked.............seriously.
