That's only because you don't know what a good bike is, good as defined by fit for purpose. Their purpose is just generally different to yours, less bike posing, more clothing style than virtually all UK cyclists, cheap, practical commuting.

I didn't like that style of bike either, but it just works so well. Many happy memories of riding around Apeldoorn on my Oma's bike.

you won't see much lycra on the inner city commuting. Neither would you see really expensive bikes used for commuting. The locks (mostly 3) are the most expensive on the communte and still I don't think the average bike will stay with you for more than 6 months. There is a big trade in stolen bikes by junkies and for 10 euro you'll have a new pre loved one.:angry:
