Rust on new bike

Hi

I have had my bike for around 2 weeks and there is rust on two bolts on the bike

I've been out in dry and wet conditions and have always wiped the bike down but I may have missed some parts

Is there anyway yo remove the rust? I've attached a photo too

Easiest thing might be to swap it for an A2 stainless screw. I can't tell from photo if it's a special type or just a standard screw

Vinegar and fine wire wool. If you want to stop it reforming a bit of lacquer or varnish.

Muck-off, wet wipes, car shampoo, fairy liquid, L’Oreal shampoo all work just fine. Somebody will come aling and talk bollocks about salt in fairy liquid in a mo...it’s a non-issue.

Unless it is inside a steel bike or on the drive train where it accelerates wear then I tend not to bother cleaning it unless going to the LBS for work. I work on the principal that a coating of muck will prevent further muck forming, a bit like my car . Ha ha

I would be somewhat niggled if a brand new machine had no effective zinc plating on its fasteners - unless the bike was a sub-£200 Halfords or Argos sourced job where quality expectations are low to begin with.

It was £500 but from Halfords

At that price I wouldn't be happy. Suggests very low quality cheap fasteners being used.

Not a problem. For that issue i use gt85, spray a bit in, then use a cotton bud to wipe it around.

Hard to see on this phone but is that the cable pinch bolt for the front mech ?

Blob a bit of oil in or spray grease/GT85. I see it loads with stem bolts and mech bolts. Just blob some oil in the socket.

You can replace with stainless bolts but I would avoid this on the braking system. Stainless steel may not be as strong as the bolts that are on there.
