New thread for a new ride. A bit flatter than the last one, but a bit further. I'm not sure of the route yet but then I seldom am except we will be stopping at Dove Cottage which some of you will remember for the cakes. I would like to start at the latest by 9.15 but once again if anyone intends to come on this and would find that time difficult to make let me know.
I am also thinking of running a 100 mile ride in September so if anyone interested in that you can let me know on this thread.

Hi TF, I would love to come along. It will be good to catchup with you and Helen again.

Question: Can I stop at yours please though on the Saturday night? I'll bring sleeping bag and pillow. It will help break up the journey.

If that's the Dove Cottage near Harby in the Vale of Belvoir, I may have to duck out early again - otherwise I'll probably be riding away from home after the stop! Don't really want to impose on my better half by asking her to pick me up again if it's avoidable (not that she'd mind), but it's a long ride back from Oakham - maybe I'll compromise by riding up whatever hill you have in mind for us from the V of B back towards Oakham, and then riding back down it, then homewards. :hello:

We will be going up the flat hill, only intend doing the flat ones on this ride, I did think about doing Harby hill but that is self inflicted pain on fixed. I would like to say the weather should be good at this time of year but given this is shaping up to be the worst summer many of us can remember, don't hold your breath. Oh yes, sorry Poacher it is the same Dove Cottage although Angel-Diva might call it the 3 cake stop .
Reckon me and Poacher have cracked it on this one, just the 5 of us and 3 are ladies .

I WILL manage to join one of these rides, but Sunday is a No for me, I'm afraid.

I still haven't learnt my lesson when organising forum rides, I should just say a date and not ask anyone what they think, every time I have asked, the ones that say they can only do a certain date are the ones who usually then can't make it. Who was it who said "you can't please all of the people all of the time".

Apologies to anyone who found some of the above post in any way offensive, I certainly didn't mean it to come across that way. To rephrase it, and this is NOT a dig at anyone in particular, others who organise rides will back me up in this observation. I guess I have been leading rides for more years than I care to remember and as such I [we] want to do the best I can and it usually requires a bit of planning and preparation to make it a rewarding experience for everyone. Speaking for myself, I always find it disappointing when initially there is lots of interest depending on dates but then there is a large dropout. I suppose it feels worse when the organiser has sacrificed plans they had in order to satisfy requests in order to get a decent number riding. I fully understand that circumstances can change before the date of the ride and that is no one's fault, just disappointing for the organiser,
For those coming on this one I am having the Jet Stream moved further north in the next week or so. [you saw it here first].

I am almost certain on this one and have put the word out to the Suffolk posse to see if there are any other takers. Whereabouts in Oakham are you planning to meet and any good free parking ?

Plenty of free parking, we usually start from Oakham station, we will both be on fixed so that will give you an idea that it isn't too hilly.
Put me down as a possible if swmbo will let me out after the last 3 weeks
You have a good woman there. As above, no where near as hilly as the last one you did with us.
