The somethings are village names.

Is this just rural but do road cyclist look down at people on mountain bikes? You say hello to them and they ignore you specially when there in a crowd?
Here in Glasgow it's different. Tbh I'm not one to grin at every cyclist on the commute, most are men, of an age they could be my sons  so I don't think it's very appropriate to wave frantically just because we are on a bike simultaneously.
In saying that, I've not met much roadie snobbery, reason being we are so few on bikes that the roadie on a club run I see on my Sunday morning ride to work could well be the husband of one of my ladies group members, or could indeed be on a hybrid/mb himself on another day.
Lots of cyclists here belong to more than one riding club, for instance I have been attending some of the slower rides of a road cycling group, while folks that own carbon bikes sometimes take their hybrid along the canal for a social ride.
The annual event Pedal on Parliament is a good example of cycling camaraderie in Scotland imo.

" but I still say hi to the wobbly cyclist, though possibly not if they look a little too wobbly as it might disturb them, I know when I start a couple of years ago and those cyclist that were friendly enough to say as they speed past did startle me somewhat."However most that have overtaken me over the years have said hi in a greater proportion (90%+ I would say) than I pass the going the other way, but that applies to both road and other bike users, again back to the bike v the car, we are all different, at the end of the day it really doesn't matter if someone says hi or not.[/QUOTE]

I had one today whilst riding back from yet another shopping trip batteling a slight head wind (as always around here up hill and head winds) I first heard How many bags can you get on that bike ? than a quite large hand landing on my right shoulder quick look and lo and behold it's the chairman of the local cycle club (not a member but know him for most of my life and a damed nice chap) bloody hell ern how are you moving that lot ?reply not as fast as you mate bet you get to Waterfoot before me, should hope so and of he pops followed by several other memebers who all spoke as they went past and not one nasty comment from any one so it can happen ! it doe's not cost much just to say hello how you doing to that wobbly guy/gal for all you know it may just be a friend you have yet to meet !!

I would have been tempted to throw the dog a sausage (I always have these with me of course) though probably after the roundabout if I was feeling nice.

I see a lot of bad stuff, but its not our place to comment on how others are, unless its possibly dangerous to them or others, and then with caution who knows where it may lead. We should all have tolerance of others as we (in cycling) are all at different levels.
What I say is usually after some thought, what I may think is usually a reaction to a situation.
I think it is. Why should we stand by and let some idiot ignore the rules of the road? If someone behaves in a manner which invites criticism, then criticise.

Read the next bit and quote that too.

What a great thread! I'm glad we don't seem to have any city in Scotland with as much cyclists as London but it's great for London that there is that many. I can imagine though with that many people the pressure to go faster or do things you maybe wouldn't usually do would increase but I defo have no time for people who see others as a hold up and bully them into moving or going faster. To give you an idea of my 5 commute I'm lucky if I see another cyclist in they 5 miles lol

Indeed.
I have told this story before.
Approaching a roundabout. A couple of us stopped behind a left indicating lorry. Another cyclist edged his way through and started to go up the inside. I shouted at him to stop. Fortunately he did. I said 'that's how cyclists die', his reply.... 'Who are you? My mother'. Sometimes there really is no telling people.
My line to counter that has been , no I am the one who has to tell her, or no I am the one who gets the hose off my fire engine to wash your stain off the road.

Hate having to be so blunt.

The ruckholt road one way is dire and the improvements for 2012 were anything but. It is the only bit of my commute I hate. Need to get out and find another route through using the park that isn't frying pan fire
