Just seen @ColinJ's comment about switching his light box on and that reminded me of something I've been meaning to ask. I've been thinking of getting one but as with anything in our modern world, there's too much choice! I've worked out how to tell which ones are the proper light boxes but just curious to see if anyone's got one and what your thoughts are of the different makes.

I have one. As a long Term SAD sufferer I used it every winter when I was still working. As I didn't see the sun on a working day half an hour while eating breakfast and a bit longer of the evening meal seemed to help me pretty well. As to makes... Mine is so old (I've been retired 8 years.) that I can't help you with that.
These days I get out of doors regularly enough to not need it, but keep it 'just in case'.

It's a bit more complicated than that...
Lumie. They're one of the original makers, and if you buy direct you should be able to save the VAT. I have Zips for home (small but pack a punch) and their desk lamps for my offices.

Which reminds me. I forgot to turn it on this morning.

I like Skol

A Minging Manc...
Jo, surely the solution is to just get out and ride more (during the day obviously) which I wouldn't have thought was a problem for an active person like you.
I don't know much, if anything, about SAD except that daylight is the cure. Even in autumn/winter hasn't daylight got enough of the goodstuff (UV?) to do the business?

Oh yes, but it's having the motivation to get up and face the day... And that's where I need the help. SAD itself isn't the problem and I'm as likely to be down and stuck on a sunny day as on a grey and grim one, but I suspect a light box could help me start the day.

Some days are like enormous hills at the end of a ride when your legs are sore, you're running out of water and your chain keeps slipping. You know you can get to the top but the urge to stop is overwhelming.
