I did once say to him that he reminded me of the top dog or the daddy in prison. Everyone was scared of him and wouldn't cross him(all with good humoured intent of course) The question is who will now become the main man?

This is really sad. The last I heard of Vernon he was setting out to do Coast to Coast USA last summer. Did he achieve this does anyone know?
This is my ambition too, so I'd better get on and do it!

I met him once, on a Hull FNR, but I must admit that I paid more attention to his bike (Woodrup) than I did to him at the time.

Vernon knew he was well liked here. A few days ago @thegreenman wished him happy birthday and there were 55 replies. Seems so long ago now, but I feel very privileged that the last but 6th thing he did on Cycle Chat was to give a 'like' to one of my posts. Very humbling indeed for me.
