Ok... I have been riding since Jan, saddle has been a good 2.5 cm too low and my knees recently exploded - been off the bike for a week and going crazy!

Bike is all sized up correctly now (proffessionally fitted) .... Knee still hurts occassionally, and I can feel it when I do a squat. If I start edging the training in now will I continue to damage the knee (bearing in mind I have the correct setup)? ..... or prolong recovery?

I know that the knee is designed to take maximum lode when straight/almost straight, so when the saddle is lowered it is under a high lode when far from straight....

... anybody know what kind of damage to tissue is actually done, or if any is permanent?... or have any links to related articles?

Considering going to the doc, then a specialist if knee is still in pain in two weeks time.
Thanks

I had a quick look at some of my past notes...

a few pointers -
consider :
shorter cranks.
compact gearing

thus giving potential to reduce range of movement between patella and femur

adopt a higher cadence

The aim is to create positive changes in pedal forces and ROM

Also check whether your cycling shoes and cleats are performing.. you want to avoid the leg making any peculiar movement outwards and that may be down to how your feet are being supported in your shoes - get a colleague to observe your action.

If your knee doesn't hurt when you walk, go walking and do some stair-climbing.
After some walking, lie down and place bags of frozen peas over your knees.
Then strap them.

In a couple of days, try riding your bike.

Don't do squats with weights.

Keep your knees mobile and repeat the ice treatment after walking or riding.

Let nature take its course and your knees SHOULD heal stronger than before.
