Just bought a shiny new road bike which very occasionally I'll want to take on all day trips where I'l need some extra water and sarnies. No problem with my tourer which I'll usually use for these as it has a rack but this is not an option on the road bike.

Not very keen on a backpack so I bought a largish saddle bag for use on these longer trips. Same kind of mount as my toolkit one - straps under the seat plus one round the seat post.

Bought one, fitted it, looks ok but now I've found my thighs hit it while pedalling - while it narrows to the front, it is not narrow enough under a narrow saddle. Anyone recommend a largish saddle bag with a narrow front?

Thanks

John

You don't say what you've got but I bought one which I reviewed here. There are others in the range as well.

Thanks for the reply and link - mine was an M-wave pack from Parkers.

I'm not sure that the Carradice wouldn't suffer from the same problem for me. Here's a stock photo of my saddle and seatpost (mine is actually a little further forward than this)

If you drop a line down from where the seat narrows (just above the clamp), the inside back edge of the top of my leg just overlaps the area behind the seatpost. It's not much but unfortunately just enough.

The Topeak toolkit bags are extremely narrow at the front and I can see why now. I think the Carradice bag may give me the same problem as the M Wave. Topeak do some bags that are offset by a bracket well behind the seatpost but they are too small for what I would like.

Thanks for the suggestions - I'll take a look.

I used a backpack on a 60 miler today and ended up with what seemed like a river running down my back. Needed it though - got through more bottles of water than I could fit on the frame.
