I bought a Planet X bike last year that came with a San Marco Ponza saddle, didn't really get on with it to start with, so went to a 'lbs' who had fizik test saddles. Went through the entire range & none were as good as what I had fitted as std  I then saw the Ponza at Ribble for a tenner, so now have it on 2 of my bikes. Maybe with my miles this year my rear has just become more accustomed to being on the perch or whether it's the right saddle for me, who knows??
I also have a Brooks B17 which was on a hybrid for years & super comfy, but couldn't get on with it at all on my road bike, the different riding position just didn't suit. The B17 is now on my single speed & is great & can do a reasonable distance without padded shorts

I'm of the opinion that decent padding in your shorts/bib tights make a world of difference, especially if you are riding any distance. It takes a bit of trial and error to find what works for you. If the positioning of the saddle is wrong, it can feel terrible so it's worth getting that correct before writing it off as a bad one for you.

Charge Spoon user here. had it for rides longer than 50miles and it was fine. though I ALWAYS wear some form of padded shorts for extra comfort if the ride is going to be longer than 5mins. Apart from commuting to work. Most of the time when i go out on the bike for a little pedal around town, I dont know when i'll be back and a quick 40min circuit turns out to be a 3-4hr trip. even more so now as my road bike its less of a hog to ride than my hybrid.
