Kenya specifically for the migration in Masai Mara. Possibly into Tanzania
Recommended tour operators? Probably private but would consider a group tour. Tented lodges ok...no tents!

TIA

Trailfinders are a fantastic operator. Not sure how Travelbag are doing these days.

I would seriously recommend Southern Africa over East Africa for a really genuine safari experience. If it is the great migration you are interested in, think Tanzania rather than Kenya.

We went with Kuoni. On a standard package. 3 parks plus trip to Nairobi and a week on the beach.
There was loads of travel between the parks. We were in a group of 8 so you have to live with them for the duration. Private tours would cost a lot.
Don’t rule out tents. We stayed in tents for a few nights, the tent had a brick built ensuite.
You normally do morning and evening game drives and chill out by the pool in the day.

Why Tanzania for the migration? I've always wanted to see the migration on the Mara so that bit isn't negotiable for me

Looking at maybe going to Kenya & Tanzania. If going there, might go all out. That said I did go to Tanzania for a friend's wedding about 15 years ago, Serengeti, Lake Manyara, highlight was the wedding at Ngorogoro

This would cover all the bases if want to do a full 2 weeks, go to some of the same places and spend £5k

Trailfinders are indeed great, they organised a great trip to Asia for us a couple of years ago

Not bothered about beach and happy to be on the move a lot

Off to Destinations in a couple of weeks so can pick up some info, chat to some tour operators

Audley travel organised our 5 weeks in Canada last year. Faultless organisation . We gave our organiser a wish list, she filled in the details and suggested great options.

Audley's agents are real specialists in the countries they deal with having travelled extensively there and have direct experience of everything they are selling .

They are seriously expensive though from what I've seen?!

Trailfinders are similarly experienced and have a safari team, but for safari a specialist operator might be good

Looking at BA flight prices for this year at least, late August actually isn't stupidly expensive as might be expected as school hols (about £850 for Prem Econ)

Certainly not cheap. But good value for the market they are aiming at.

We've done a fair bit of safari and the migrations are on are must do list but so far by far the best game viewing was Etosha in Namibia and the Okavango and Sabi river in Botswana. THe difference? Kenya is mass tourism with many tour busses rou d every pride of lions, Namibia we were often the only safari truck in sight and the Okavango is just so special. Damned if we can remember the tour organiser we used.

May be so but as I say, I've always wanted to see the migration, it's not safari per se (as I say, I've been to Tanzania where it certainly wasn't very touristy)

My impression is Audley are focused on the older / retired market looking for a long leisurely trip for a number of weeks wherever. I met a nice couple on an airport hotel shuttle bus in Bangkok on an Audley trip who fitted that demographic. Not that there's anything wrong with that. Just I have 10-14 days to see as much as I can
