Thanks. I'll have a good look at it when I take it off tomorrow.

According to the spec, they are CST Traveller City Classic Road, Kevlar-lined and "proven for their puncture resistance" (!). I've read elsewhere that the downside is their weight and rolling resistance.

I don't anticipate doing more than 50 miles in one go over the next few months, and not heavily laden, so suggestions for nippier alternatives are welcome, or if there's a thread devoted to tyre selection perhaps someone could point me in the right direction ?

Yes that's the spec for mine as well going by the website, but the tyres say "Cheng Shin Tire." I bought it to travel to work, a couple of miles at a time, but have done over 500 miles in the last couple of months as my road bike was out of action, with no problems apart from that one tyre.

I don't know much about touring tyres, but I have been looking at these.

Update:

Took the tyre off and confirmed that the wire bead has separated from the sidewall. Hmmm.

Couldn't find the car TP gauge, but I have a Michelin footpump with gauge and it showed pretty well the same reading as my track pump, so I don't think it's an under-reading issue.

Needless to say, I won't be buying replacement CSTs. Having now read lots of posts on tyres, I'm torn between Marathons and Gatorskins, maybe also dropping down from 32s to 28s.

Thanks for all the feedback.

Also consider Pasela Tourguards. They were as bomb proof as Marathon on my 32mile/day commute and faster with the bonus they are a lot easier to fit and remove.

Well I've bitten the bullet and ordered a pair of Marathon Plusses (stayed with 32s in the end).

Only decision now is whether to leave the original CST on the rear for the time being, but in view of the the way the front one failed without warning, I'll probably bin it and put it down to experience.

With hindsight, I ought to have specified decent tyres when EBC built the bike.

Rear takes the most weight, if you are in doubt change it.

My Mrs has a EBC bike with CST Tuscany's on it, might just have to change them to Schwalbe as well.
