Many decades ago in infant school they'd feed us dates on salad ( complete with mashed potatoes..how crazy was that?!! ) for our school dinner. It always made me think i was eating a dead cockroach salad!

Pah! You were lucky. One morning at school, there was a live slug in the aluminium dish that contained our breakfast cornflakes. The headmaster asked us all not to mention it in our weekly letters to home. None of us did.
