There is an app you can download that will transfer nearly ever app over to sd can't remember the name of it but it's in the market and free

I will have to give that a try. My phone does not have much internal memory so it is a pain when I find that some apps can't be moved to the SD card.

App 2 SD looks like it might be worth trying. This article looks useful.

I just had a look in the market and it looks OK what I suggest is going on you tube for the apps your looking at see how it's done then do it. I use you tube to get a better idea of how everything works it's helpful watching it before doing it and seeing the results

Depending on the phone manufacturer, the way the storage is carved up or not can affect how many apps you can install, for example, on my Samsung Galaxy S2 it seems to set aside 2Gb for apps, but this isn't enough, with the remaining ram sitting empty while photos and music are stored on my 32Gb micro SD card. I suspect this was devised when an older version of android (Gingerbread?) was less efficient at managing memory and power.

However, most manufacturers will allocate all of the ram as space for everything, apps, media, photos etc.

Thats a problem with my Lenovo, The 2Gb for apps is full. I suspect some of the apps that I can transfer to the sd card still leave bits behind. Android 4.4 apparently reorganizes the memory into one continuous lump, instead of the 2x 2Gb split it has now, think that may be a system / apps but getting a bit techy for me.

There 9 an app maid on the market that cleans out all the unused data

Hmm ... after all this talk of apps and SD cards, I checked my phone and discovered that several apps which had previously been moved to the SD card had ended up back in internal memory! I think that must have happened when they were automatically updated to new versions.

I have been through everything now and moved what I can to SD. I'll check again after the next lot of updates and see if any apps have gone walkabout again.

Good to know, there have been a lot of problems with the SD Card support on that phone with people reporting that while class 6 sd cards were working ok class 10 were not, although motorola are supposed to have released a patch to sort it out.

I know when I had my HTC Desire many moons ago I never had any problems with moving apps to the sd card however when I got the S3 that would never do it the whole time I had it. Similarly when I had the Samsung Tab 2 8gb the sd card would only let you store files, music and pics on the sd card it would not let you move apps, which is why I went for the Nexus 7 32gb I have never even got close to running out of storage on that.

I had an S4 that was fine until it went through the washing machine ! the build was a bit plastic feeling compared to some other offerings but I liked the size, I replaced it with a Sony Z1 compact, water proof , I just pop it in my Jersey pocket without the plastic bag required for the Samsung S4 mini. ( don't think it will survive the washing machine though) The build feels better than the Samsung & the battery life is a lot better, but I don't use it for Strava (other tracking apps are available) I consider it a good phone for cycling use.
