I've had a windows phone for the last 2.5. years and finally got fed up with the quality of the apps. Also the battery is failing and...ok I want a new phone.
I want to buy a sim-free phone outright and was considering the S7.

Does anyone have one, and how does it compare to other Android phones? Would it be (price-wise) overkill for my needs, which are web-browsing, common apps (games, ebay, youtube etc) mobile banking and of course taking pictures and video?

I don't have a PC or a 4k TV BTW.

Would the S5 or S6 be just as good for what I want?

Thanks

Isnt Microsoft dropping the windows phone software now they have off loaded Nokia so probably a good time to jump ship.

The only thing I dont like about samsung phones it all the crapware they put on them, I opted for a sim free Motorola Moto X 2nd gen 32gb all it comes with is android so no crapware the best £269 I ever spent on a phone and no contract so I got a good deal on the sim package.

Oh while I remember some other phones to look at would be:

Wileyfox Swift 4G Dual SIM Free Smartphone -- https://www.amazon.co.uk/Wileyfox-Swift-Dual-Free-Smartphone-White/dp/B019FMN3K2?ie=UTF8&colid=2GGLKOEBB7327&coliid=IJA2EWEVIS9B0&psc=1&ref_=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl

The vodaphone smart 6 series of Android phones they easily be unlocked with an unlock code from ebay -> https://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_s...vodafone+smart+6&sprefix=voda,electronics,140

They both seem to get some good write ups and I would def give them and look also of course there is the Moto G which I have had 2 of and they are very good value for money but I prefer the moto x for perfomance.

I've got the vodafone ultra 6. Pretty pleased with it, it's certainly good vfm, with specs equivalent to a high end phone. Only problem I've found is you can't engage voice dial from a BT headset. Everything else works fine. Ebay unlock was just over £2.

(if you get one from VF, make sure you order it online even if you pick it up from a store, as you can opt out of buying £10 of credit online, but apparently not in store)

Otherwise I'd go from a Motorola. Cheap and well specced.

Some good recommendations. We have the S4 and S5 (and a knackered S3) and they are great, but I'd consider one of the above for my son as he just uses data, so a Gif Gaf sim would be ideal, with one of these phones.

Wonder if EE do a cheap in-house android ?

Got an S7. Moved to it from an iPhone 6. In several respects it is quite superior to it. Very fast, good battery life, decent screen (though kind of regret not getting the S7 Edge now as only £50 more), good camera (fantastic in good light, not quite as good as camera on iPhone 6), great OS (and now with Android pay, which is even easier to use than Apple Pay, believe it or not) and far more customisable. Lastly the thumbprint scanner works MUCH better than the Samsung S6 (but sensor still not as fast or dependable as an iPhone).

So far to say, I really like mine. I would definitely recommend it - and based on current reports - the iPhone 7 isn't looking that amazing, so I think it's fairly future proof.

Got one of these a couple of weeks ago. £36 on ebay for the 16GB Gen1 (unlocked). It's secondhand but not even a scratch

I got a Doogee X5 from Amazon for about £50. Quad core, dual sim and has next to no bloatware. Very happy with it.
