I'm considering buying the Samsung Galaxy Tab A for my son and comparing it with the Nexus 9.

My lad is 27 with Downs Syndrome and SLD. He uses a Moto 2G very successfully to access YouTube, BBC Sport and other sports websites.

There is no requirement for email, heavy duty games - though might consider FIFA 2016 if it is possible/practical - general web surfing etc.

I'm keen to stick with Android as the Moto runs this and so is familiar. Are the icons used by Samsung the same as those used by Nexus and Moto?

Any help and other observations would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

The icons are likely to be very similar but not identical. Although Android is the operating system, the user interface is usually customised by the manufacturers.

I use a Hudl, a Moto 4G and a Samsung Galaxy S6 phone and although I use each of them without problems, there are differences in the positioning, placement and appearance of some of the icons. I can not recall what they are but there were some initial minor frustrations in learning the sequences of access to some of the features. If I could be bothered, I'd drag the most frequently used icons to the 'front screen'.

Try finding some screenshots of the products to gauge what's on offer. Better still, see if you can find stores where you can try the devices. Paper, virtual and anecdotal evidence don't always translate well into a satisfactory user experience.
