I am in Santorini at the moment, without a bike. We have spent a few days explring the Island and it looks like a great place for a cycle tour. Maybe even a Winter Tour when all the holiday makers have gone.

Has anyone ridden here?

Andy I would be if I dare venture out into the sun. September and it is boiling out there.

Apparently a lot cooler between October and May. Things start opening in May after the Winter shut down. There are lots of half built houses all over the Island if you like civilised Wild camping and are willing to take the chance.

What do you do after the first day ?
it's only about 10 miles from Oia in the north to Akrtiri in the south
The whole island only has about 100 miles of roads, most of them up hill

Brains, you are correct but there is a big Lane network in Santorini. We have been riding them on a 4 wheel motorbike all week and still have miles of it to cover. There is so many out of the way, interesting places to visit.

I am to much of an A to B as fast as you can cyclist, so there is enough to keep me busy for a week.

Pop into a shop and buy a map? Pop into a Tourist Office? Local bike shops?

If you've been exploring (or even expiring) the island you must have some idea of the lie of the land.

But when you get to the top they become downhill?

Andy, I have got a good idea of what the place is like after this week. The easiest way to navigate Santorini is to go to the top of the highest hill and look. LBS, I didn't see any. Bike rental places, 1 shabby one. All the maps of the island have about 8 villages on them and only the main roads which are about 5. They are totally useless.

But it is not a big island and 2 mountain tops will give a good enough idea where to go.
