And if we were very lucky World of Sport used to give us a bit of cycling every so often. I think that might have been the first appearance of Phil and Paul, I recall a piece that Phil did about Paul being the UK's only rider in the Tour. I think he was riding for La Redoute at the time. They did a piece riding together, Paul on his Motobecane and Phil on a rather smart Condor if I recall.

If I remember right at the time they were trying to get the 'Tour of Britain' ( AKA 'the Milk Race') up to the level of the TDF, Giro etc.

As a kid, Winter Saturday afternoons for me were spent flicking between Grandstand and World of Sport, trying to miss as much horse racing as possible, and trying to catch as much of the Scrambling / Rallycross or any other motorsport as I could find.

Towards the end of the afternoon it was Rugby League. Two teams of 13 blokes plastered in so much mud, that on black and white TV they all looked the same, knocking seven bells out of each other whilst being compered by the excellent Eddie Waring.

Finally, the football results "Teleprinter". Watching on the off chance that they would carry the score of Gravesend and Northfleet United (who, as a mere Southern League team, would not get their match on the final score results boards), but sometimes got their match result sneaked in on the teleprinter.

Happy days......

I used to like the Royal Brothers, although I thought something was not quite right, as the 'brothers' had different surnames: Bert Royal & Vic Falkner (and Bert was bald, whilst Vic had long blonde hair).
I was going to respond to this post, then read on and realised I already had, ......... three and a half years ago:sad:
