Stay single and don't have children.
Or send the children out to chop down trees for the wood burning stove.

[QUOTE 2175806, member: 9609"]You get what you pay for with LEDs, some of the cheap ones are truly awful, and I don't think the 4w ones come anywhere near the 50w halogens they claim to replace in brightness.

I guess it could differ between brands and models of LEDs, but mine which I believe claimed to be 4 watts are just as bright if not brighter than the halogens they replaced.

We rarely have lights on in the house and live by the light of the fishtanks. Heating is taken care of by a woodburner & home-made eco fan (thank you youtube & hobby shop), lots of stuff lives outside in plastic containers to keep cool in winter (or glass containers in the case of beer) and our electricity bill is less than a tenner a week. We are all electric so are pretty chuffed with that. Its the emersion heater and cooker that takes all the juice.

I turned the boiler down, they can let rip with the thermostat all they like now. They haven't figured out why the shower is colder yet.

Why are some women permanently cold? I keep the digital room 'stat in the hall set on 19, which means the bedrooms and lounge get to a nice comfortable 21 degrees before the boiler cuts out. However I know that the minute I leave the house for a 2 week trip that room 'stat gets turned up to 21 in the hall. The lounge radiator has a TRV on it but she turns that up to full, thus defeating the object of a TRV so that when the woodburner is lit the lounge is sometimes so hot that I sit sweating and have to open the door. It got so hot last year that it woke up the larva of an Asian Longhorn beetle that was living in the frame of the sofa and it started noisily chewing the wood, so I had to dismantle the sofa to get it out.

I agree. We have had some good ones and some bad ones (we just put the bad ones in places like the utility room where it doesn't matter if the light is cold). Now the main light fitting we are waiting for them to improve is those little tiny lights (about an inch long). We have bought one bulb for it but it was far too blue, and they are still expensive. We've had some good bulbs from Ikea.
