I bought four 4 watt LED bulbs to replace four 40 watt halogen bulbs, and they're just as bright. They cost around £15 to £20 from a UK seller on eBay, great deal!
A few years ago when LEDs were still too pricey, I did a similar thing, replacing 4 x 75W halogens with 4 x 11W fluorescents. That's a saving of 256W but LEDs would save even more energy. The annoying thing about my low energy bulbs is how long they take to warm up and give a decent light output! LEDs wouldn't have that problem.

I'll replace bulbs with LEDs as and when necessary.

Agreed, this is what drives me insane about CFL's. Often by the time the light has warmed up I've finished what I've been doing in the room and am about to turn the light off!

The LED's on the other hand are spot on the money. Another advantage is that they barely get warm at all, unlike other bulbs that you can burn yourself on, which make them perfect for desk lamps/kids rooms etc.

I wasn't going to mention this but ...

I'm fairly tall (6'1" a.k.a. 1.86 m) and my kitchen's 4 spotlights are above where I stand to use the sink. I have a bald spot which used to get uncomfortably hot when I was standing directly under 300W of halogen spots! (No problem with the CFL replacements though.)

How is the colour of the light with LEDs? They are quite blue, aren't they?

You can get them in a pure white light version, which will give a harsh white light, bordering on blue - But you can also get them in a "warm" version, which is like your standard bulb.

Linky please!

(I'm too lazy to Google!)

I would post a link, but I have no idea what type of bulb you wish to replace.

Finding the right one is simple, though. Take the old bulb out of the light and find out what style it is. If, for example, it is a GU10 halogen bulb, you would then search eBay for GU10 LED. Ensure you get a warm version, if that's what you want, and also ensure the bulb is of the SMD style, as shown in this listing.

Done!
