Disagree.

There is no evasive action you can carry out,.

Perhaps Braking would have worked, I cant say for sure as I wasn't there but, regardless I respect your choice to disagree.

each to their own, its just not my style

That is just, well...such rubbish.

Its my opinion. Your choice to dismiss/rubbish a balanced opinion, perhaps illustrates the difference in our style and possibly our approach to life.

I ride very much how I approach my life, it seems to work well for me. I suffer very little confrontation.

That said, I'm a big chap who can easily appear intimidating, so maybe I don't need to feed my ego and win every inch of the road, scaring pedestrians and refusing to back down even when my safety depends upon it, something that seems all to common amongst our commuter fraternity. Its as if we somehow learn that we NEED to be aggressive, NEED to be right, NEED to never back down and therefore NEED things like air zounds.

I've never needed any of the above.

At the same time, I choose to respect the opinions of those around me, after all I may learn something. Its very rare that I'll find an opinion on these pages that warrants dismissal.

That's fair enough. 'Rubbish' was a poor word to use so please accept my apologies and read my post again with 'wrong' instead.

You're right about the ego thing, and there are a few cyclists around that give the Airzound a bad name. I think most eventually learn how to use it wisely. Unfortunately there are many more who use their voice in an aggressive way - though nobody on these pages I'm sure!

I think an airzound is just one of a few things that you can use to help yourself. If someone genuinely has not seen you I think one would be very useful, although I can imagine you could become over-reliant on it. Yelling does work sometimes but often things are just too noisy for you to be heard (depends on how loud you can shout I s'pose!).

Glad you were OK. In the dark like that a loud squeak from the Airzound sounds an alarm.

I used to have an airhorn on my bike when I was a teenager. I had an evening job delivering prescription drugs on the local bungalow estate. It was full of pensioner drivers who'd pull out of their drives into your path, or left hook you, so I had to make allowances all the time.

Once, in daylight hours, I was waiting by a traffic island, with one foot down, waiting to turn right into a side road.

A young lady in a mini was waiting to emerge from the side road and turn right.

She looked left & right then surged towards me.

I was sideways on to her, and noticed her driving straight at me but looking off to the side.

I fell over the bike trying to get out of the way but it was not until I blasted the air horn that the dozy mare finally looked where she was going, and stopped in time to avoid hitting me.

So, in my personal experience, a loud horn blast can be jolly useful at times.

I guess you will still have yours to hand but thankfully my riding is on quieter wider roads and I don't need one.

I've only ever noticed one person with an airzound.

I only noticed it because he used it when it was not necessary. Bit of a t1t.

Overkill IMO.

If it saves your life better to have one though and use it to avoid becoming roadkill don't you think or are you taking a contrary obstinate position just because you can?

You might be right.

They just seem to be an odd thing to have. I will use my voice when necessary instead.
