About a mile from home, cycling along a quiet, long, tree lined avenue. I saw a group of five kids aged 4-7 just mucking about on bikes, on the pavement. I recognised one - it was my 7 year old and remembered that he was playing at a friends that day.

He saw me and I waved. Then I had an idea. I'd mount the pavement and pretend to chase him. So I did.

"Grrrr." I shouted "I'm going to eat you up." All the kids scarpered, screaming and laughing. My son (he's a very baby 7) scootled along on his single-speed MTB in mock fear, kid in front turned across him, down they both went, onto the concrete pavement.

Boo hoo hoo. Tears, grazes etc.

Moral? Don't chase kids on a fixed along a pavement. It's not big and it's not clever.

What sort of father doesn't know the age of his son, in the title he is 6 and the thread he is 7:wacko:

Don't worry about it too much. This memory will become funny very quickly for all concerned and will stay with your son for years. You'll both be giggling about this into old age and beyond. Who wants a Dad who wanders in with a quick wave and then sits down watching TV? It'll be a laughing point and a great Dad/Son memory.
