Ex. I was knocked down for the second time january 2011. No longer ride on the roads.
So witnessing saturday night's knock down brought it all back. But less of me and more of the girl.
No news yet I am afraid as she hasn't got back to me.
To clear up a few other points. I don't think the police we being unhelpful I just asked the traffic officer who spoke to the injured girl and then me, that we move away from the woman who caused it as I didn't want her knowing my contact details or version of what happened. My details were taken but nothing else. Apart from that the policeman was perfectly pleasant. I guess he was relieved to find the girl wasn't seriously injured or dead as his job must from time to time be pretty gruesome attending fatal RTAs on the A14.
The collision was at the junction of Huntingdon and Girton roads in the direction heading into Cambridge. It was dark but the junction is well lit and there are traffic lights for a pedestrian crossing. The cyclist was crossing the road infront of the car but the cyclist was well established in their manouevre so the car driver SHOULD have seen them and sufficiently slowed to avoid them. I would say I was following about 8-10 car lengths behind and I saw the cyclist! I drive this road pretty much everyday. When I went to work today I had a close look at the layout and vantage points as I drove through and I still cannot believe how the car struck the cyclist. Well I can, the car was being driven too fast, I'd say 50 in a 40 and the driver was not paying attention, maybe doing some thing in the car with the passengers, talking, distracted and only saw the cyclist at the very last second perhaps when one of teenage passengers screamed. The drivershould have seen the cyclist 4-5 seconds before meaning they could have stopped ............. and avoided the collision.
The driver wasn't abusive to the cyclist but did keep saying that it was the cyclists fault as she believed the cyclist didn't have lights. They did have lights or what was left of the front light smashed on the road.
Judging how quickly the police left the scene I should imagine they had decided quite quickly to rubber stamp the case NFA and were just going through the motions. Disappointing. But realisitically the cyclist may only have monor injuries. The woman driver suddenly becomes contrite under caution. Result - NFA.
