My neighbour got his out at Christmas and invited me round to play as his wife wouldn't indulge him. I have to confess that I was bored rigid after about 10 minutes.
I'd rather have played with his wife while he was distracted

Moving house soon, so the scalextric will be coming out of the loft. Hmm..........more room in the new house, maybe it should not go up to the loft.

loved my Scalextrix. Used to get together with friends and put all our track together to make one long track, then all used to argue about who's bit of track was who's. We never thought to mark it.

All my track had a big silver Humbrol paint 'D' on the underside. Back in the early '80s all the kids in the street would get together and build massive tracks. Saying that though, I seem to recall that the kids started it and the dads took over, especially one I remember who had two daughters so didn't have open access to Scalextric.

My F1 Renault was by far my favourite car.

Got my old Scalextrix set out when I was given a new oval by my children a couple of Chritmases ago as a 'special' present..... discovered that you couldn't join old and new but found a fantastic crossover piece which came with 2 converter sections.... perfect! Lasted about 2 months before it 'had to be put back in loft.... and there it's stayed!

My favourite cars are a couple of BMW's with working front lights. We used to race in the evenings and turn all the house lights off which was fine as long as your car stayed on the track

I too had a train set as a boy. So my lads got a scalextric set one Christmas, it since has grown by another set ( discounted stock - too good an offer) and a drift curve set.
I can get it all up in the lounge, just. Takes a while to get sorted so no dead spots but is then good for the week or so that it stays up for and then gets put away for about six months or so.
I really like some of these wooden tracks but couldn't sustain the enthusiasm or have the space/time to go that route.
