Scam email from Cycling Plus?

Anybody had this? It's from info@e.cyclingplus.co.uk and invites you to click a link to confirm whether you want to receive mails or not.

How do the scammers know I sometimes read Cycling Plus though?

Is it not due to the new GDPRs? You now have to re opt in to everything?

I’ve had for many databases I’ve previously subscribed to

Had a few of these from various companies in the last few weeks, I wonder by opting in if you are also giving them permission to share all your data?!

I've been getting a load from forums not based in the UK. The nine UK based ones haven't sent anything.

From May 25th companies will need your informed consent to contact you via an email address they have on file as opposed to the previous situation there you had to opt out otherwise they assumed consent.

Quite easy when you remember that you're also registtered on one of their sites.

It may well be genuine but with the flurry of similar emails from various sites (thanks to GDPR), it's an easy cover for a phishing email to emulate and sneak through. Double check the source before clicking on any link.

Look at it the other way round, all those companies who have your e-mail that you think "Never buying from them again" shouldn't be able to contact you.

The American companies don’t seem to have quite got the grasp of this. It involves anyone dealing with data of an EU citizen regardless of where they are based. From what I see US companies just seem to be sending emails about updating their ToS without requiring positive confirmation of acceptance.

Look at it the other way round, all those companies who have your e-mail that you think "Never buying from them again" shouldn't be able to contact you.

Doesn't mean they won't use it though.

A sharp reminder in reply might stop em though. It might not but worth a try.

Better yet - don't click on the link. Visit the site directly from your bookmarks. If it doesn't have a way to do the GDPR review without visiting from an unauthenticated emailed link, nudge the site admin.
