It wasn't exactly on a commute, but you guys know more about this sort of thing. I was out on a club ride yesterday lunchtime in a group of 12 riders. I was the lead rider (single file) going at about 40km/h.

It occurred right at the end of a short dual carriageway section where the road merges into 1 lane. A car passed us with lots of room just before, but then a large grain/aggregate type lorry accellerated to get past us. The back guys were ok, but the front 3 felt that our lives had been put in unneccessary danger - the lorry came level with us and swerved in, leaving us unclipping, braking hard and subsequently screaming obscenities! Too angry to remember the numberplate.

The guys at the back said he had no reason to swerve in as there was still plenty of space in the middle and no oncoming traffic.

Clearly the manoevre was dangerous, but should we have yielded earlier?

This is it - were were heading south and the swerve was where the silver car is. http://maps.google.co.uk/?ie=UTF8&ll=52.411998,-1.884874&spn=0.000705,0.001695&t=h&z=19

You shouldn't have to yield to anyone making an overtaking maneuver. he will have been playing follow the leader, where instead of looking at the road ahead, he was blindly following the car in front. Happens all to often, unfortunately.

Maybe in the future when out on club runs, you should have a designated helmet camera wearer. In fact if all club runs had at least one camera between them and this fact was publicly known, them maybe driving standards around you would improve....

We had a daft one on our club run on Saturday. I had a car squeeze by just to get to the back of a queue at the lights 2 second earlier. As it went by the passenger gave some garbled comment, I thought to my self this one is an idiot. Sure enough just after the lights is a roundabout where we were going straight on they squeezed by the riders in front and squeezed/ bullied their way through between the several riders already on the roundabout taking the 1st exit.

Mags, is your answer to all road woes a camera? You'd think you owned the company that makes them!

 Of course not, but it does help, especially when you don't think to/ or have time to remember a registration number.

I've hinted many times, that it would be worth a helmet camera company sponsoring me, to get business. No takers so far...
