This is why you shouldn't buy a carbon fibre bike. They melt when exposed to high yield nuclear ordnance.

I must watch this again now  durka durka
"back in the day" I was rewatching that on my iPod 5. With the tiny screen I realised that to someone overlooking, the puppet sex would look like real sex, I had to revert to my book during commuting.

(for purient interest, try to find the expurgated scenes from that movie. They put in scat porn, just to give the US censors something to remove)

Thought we still were!
No. The cold war ended. Something may be beginning. I hope not. That was the most important reason I voted "remain".

The Great War was still the Great War in 1939. We may shortly be renaming "the cold war" as "the first cold war", or - god forbid - naming something else WWIII. But we are not experiencing a continuation of the original cold war.

Peterborough never stood much chance anyway...
Alconbury 12 miles to the south, ex US base for spy planes etc.
Molesworth, 15 miles south maybe, ex home to the Cruise missiles.
Wittering, less than 10 miles to the north, home of various RAF squadrons over the years.

Can't imagine them wanting to nuke Peterborough itself, there's bogger all here of particular interest  but we'd catch it from both sides anyway.

<atheist>god, please. If whatever happens now can get either name, then I may even become a deist again (yeah, probably not, but that's mostly because I was born after WWII and don't really believe the world is going to melt down again in my life time. #SmugGenX)

And heavily targeted, if it gets personal.

Best philosophy is to get away from any potential targets

Pa Bollo spent the last years of his RAF 'career' (he joined to play football in hot countries) in the mid '80s at RAF Fylingdales, literally waiting to be the first non-Russian to see it all go Dr Strangelove.

S'weird how as a young'n it was just my dad's job, but I was describing to some friends how I used to play war with my dad's gas mask and NBC suit. Lots of wrong looks around the dinner table.

Mrs o always complains about my hoarding useless stuff, but just dug this out, looks like she will be eating her words soon...

There was a service version called something like 'Survive to Fight'. I can find references to it on the interbob but not an online copy. It might have been classified. We had it in the loo.

My dad was ground crew on nuclear capable and often loaded ready to go Vulcans and his brother was crew chief on Vulcans as well. He once or twice spoke of it. I sensed it didn't sit easily with him, the terrible potential, the need to be ever ready and for the squadrons involved it must have been very very real to them, something that must have weighed heavily for those that had kids and family,
