My best mate from school (who I see weekly and have been pals with for 35 odd years) has contacted a few old school friends via Facebook and between them they've organised a school reunion and he's now nagging me to go.

I don't particularly fancy it - I never had many other mates at school (I was always in the computer room) - and I'm not sure I'm all that bothered about what any of them are up to now. The last I saw of them was when we were 13 and broke up for the summer holidays before moving up to Senior school !!!!

But a bit of me wonders if it would be a good night going and seeing how everyone is and where they're at in life?

Have you been to one and was it what you expected?

Cheers,
Shaun

I went to a secondary school one ten yrs ago nearly, and it was really good. We've had a couple more since, and it was great to rekindle some forgotten friendships, without expecting too much from them. It's fascinating how people turn out... we had all sorts, from a railway ticket man to a judge... we had two rules... no talking about your car or your salary. It was good fun, but as I said, I went with an open mind, and no axes to grind, nothing to prove and nothing to lose, so I enjoyed myself a lot.

I had a very small one from my Uni - it was a meal of about 15 of us. Most of the people I want to keep in touch with I do, the majority I couldn't care for.

I ended up asking awkward questions about the majority choice of profession- advertising/marketing and was told that branding was a necessary part of life- I didn't get invited to another one (we all did psychology degrees).

There was a 10 year really large get together for my Uni department- I couldn't make it but was potentially interested in making it.

College days- I would be interested in a re-union as I had some great friends I lost contact with sadly and it would be good to see some of them. High school, had an awful time and would rather not see any of those lot again and there are some that I keep in touch with and I'm happy with that.

I suppose it really is down to just having no expectations except catching up with folk who you're interested in knowing about. It could be really fun as long as you take it lightly.

I went to an Approved School. Most of my mates wouldn't be let out on parole to attend a reunion!

A fair proportion of my old school mates would have divided equally between those who joined the old bill and those who did serious time.

And one or two would probably have done both.

I've not been to a reunion however, I still regularly see a small group of friends from when we joined high school in 1969 and every now and then my house mates from university get together for a mad weekend.

I went to one ten years after we left school. It was good to catch up with one or two people but most of them I couldn't give a toss about.

I certainly wouldn't want to go to another one but that's just me.....you might really enjoy it Shaun

School reunion? I'd rather eat a bit of battered sh*t ...

+1, you've put that more eloquently than I would have  Firm believer in the fact our eyes are positioned to look forward, not back!

Spot on I reckon. Sadly I made the mistake a few years back when I was 55. Jeez, I wished I'd not bothered; everyone looked so bloody old

A couple of girls that I had met on a regular basis at lunchtimes or round the back of the bike sheds were, well, I cannot imagine what I saw in them. I know, I know they maybe thought the same about me as well  At least I have always kept in shape; I seemed to be the only one mind. Then I was 15 stone but working out 5 days a week so still fit.

I think what I did find interesting was what people had made of themselves. One lad who was a complete dipshite at school, not the sparkiest jewel in the crown, turned out to become a multi-millionaire of all things!

Would I ever do it again? NOT A FECKIN CHANCE!

Friend I met on my first day at 'big school' organised one when we were all 40. It was really good- people we hadn't seen for years got in touch through Friends eUnited [before FB era]... lost touch with people as they had moved on/ gone abroad/ got married.

It was lovely walking in to the room and seeing people again. Kept in touch with some of the, others have just melted away again.

Definitely worth going- what have you got to lose....

Have no desire to go to any sort of school reunion.
I am only in touch with and friends with one person from my school days (my oldest mate), the rest I couldn't give a flying fek about.
