I know I'm a bad parent who has left it to the last minute!!! But it's take a while for it to sink in that I need to buy the sports uniform on-line.

Anyway there isn't any sizing guides on the site and I need to buy for a slim 11 year old boy, and the sizing is in inches as opposed to age. He is in age 10 trousers mostly - normally the sort with elastic waist. (Though if you look at some of his shorts, I recently removed some that were size 6).

Shorts for football/rugby options are: 22/24, 26/28, 30/32 etc

Rugby shirt options start from 30/32 inches and goes upwards.

Has anyone got a similar sized child who has already bought some stuff? (And no I can't ask the other parents as he only knows girls who are going to that school). If not then I'm no worse off than simply guessing.

I'm sure the social workers will be able to help when they take him into care!

I nicked this from Amazon:
1. Body height
To measure your height, it is easiest to do so against a door frame, without shoes. Measure from the top of your head to the soles of your feet.

2. Chest size
Place a tape measure loosely under the arms and around the fullest part of the chest.

3. Waist
Place a tape measure around your waist at the narrowest point between the bottom of your ribs and the top of your hip bone. Make sure the tape is straight and snug but doesn’t compress your skin. Measure after breathing out.

4. Hips
Follow the same instructions for waist measurement, but make sure the tape is around the fullest part of your hips when you do so. This is normally around 9 inches below your waist.

5. Inside Leg
Pull the tape measure to the very top of the inside of your leg. Let the tape measure fall down and measure to your ankle. If you like your trouser long then measure down to the lower part of your foot.

6. Leg Length
You can also take a full leg measurement by placing the tape measure on your waist (see above) and letting it fall to the floor or your ankle.

Hope that helps

Age sizing tends to be silly because kids can easily be +/- 2 years, sizing by inches is a lot better IMHO  You just need one of those clever tape measuring devices and measure him.

From what I remember of school, first day of term most kids turned up with super clean and new clothes 10 sizes too big anyway :P

I lent my tape measure to my daughter and is is "missing in action" .... the only thing I can lay my hands on is a chunky metal retractable one.... I'm not sure it bends around corners that well. (I suppose I could use a piece of string).

With the age thing - you get used to whether a particular age will fit your child (if it is PJ's for example - always buy a size or two too big so that they look silly on Christmas Day and then they fit when they shrink in the wash).

I am intending for it to be big (after all it is the PE kit rather than the proper uniform), but I'd rather it didn't drown him:whistle:. Or the shorts fall down as he runs (though he has perfected the technique with jeans of running and holding on to the side - why he just doesn't wear a belt I don't know).
