schwalbe durano plus vs. schwalbe ultremo D D

Thought I'd share my thoughts on these tyres, after several months riding out in Cyprus. Both are excellent road tyres for riders needing proper puncture protection.

On my first trips here I used durano plus. I never had a single puncture. They gave me peace of mind in some remote places.

They were heavy however, so I switched to ultremo dd for the last two months riding here.

I was initially concerned the punctures would arrive, but after many long rides here over the highest peaks the island has to offer, they have been excellent. No punctures, and only one small glass nick.

The durano plus sufferers from sidewall deterioration with threads of fibre coming loose regularly. This was not the case with.the ultremos.

Both ride smoothly, but the ultremos are faster. The.durano plus would be my tyre of choice here in the coming.winter months as they have a little mire grip in the wet.

But in dry conditions I will stick with the ultremo dd .

In both cases I have ridden the same routes on both sets many times.

I inflate them to 120 psi and found the comfort to be the same for both.

Tyre wear seemed to be similar although I would say the durano plus wear faster but are thicker.

All in all I think the durano ultremo is the better of the two for those who want a slick style tyre with excellent puncture protection for those less than perfect surfaces.

Do the Ultremo DD have better protection than the ZX ? I went for the ZX thinking they gave the best protection without compromise on rolling and got a puncture as soon as I left the house . Blinking fast and lively tyre though !

I havent ridden on a zx...i thought the DD was the ultremo with the most protection so thats what i bought. Looking at the zx i'd hazard a guess that they are less puncture resistant, more race orientated.....not much good for me lol!

Thanks for that. I am a happy Durano Plus user but will admit they are not the lightest. I do like decent puncture resistance though and may give the Ultremo DD a try in the spring.

I have had the ultremo DD's on my road bike for the past 6 months and not one puncture to date; considering it's ridden every day.
Anyone thinking of buying them, I'd say go for it.
Probably on balance they are a better summer tyre due to less debris in the roads caused by rain and the like.

Ive just been cleaning my bike and noticed something odd...

One ultremo DD states max psi 115 , th eothe rstates max psi 130psi
700x25c

Ive had them both inflated at 120psi for two months riding out here and had no issues, but im perplexed as to why one max is lower than the other, when they are the same tyre. Anyway, they work fine

Just checked my Schwalbe ultremo DD evo's 700x23.
Both say 85 to 145psi. I run them at 100psi and I'm 85kg....no problems.

I wouldn't move away from my Durano plus tyres over the winter. Ridden all last winter without a puncture and yesterday rode a 70 mile sportive with non-stop rain and flooded roads throughout. My mate was one of plenty having to stop to repair flats but I was not. Happy to accept a slightly slower tyre for the peace of mind I get with them.

I'm on Durano's on the roady. They are a bit stiff, but I'll settle for that. I've done a fair few miles on them, and been on rides where others in the group have had blow outs punctures on the same roads. They do seem very good VFM.

Thread resurrection. Just got a deal on some Ultremos so will be putting them on the commuter for a bit. Will see how it goes
