I've been watching all the bits about Scotland's independent voting and I've seen and heard a lot of opinions.
Now I've just watched a bit about people in Edinburgh singing god save the queen and then Scottish folk getting into fights with the singers and the comments I've heard have made me laugh. There is Scottish folk say how its so bad the the English are taunting the Scottish with there songs. For crying out loud its a song its not Gona brake your bones grow up and ignore it. And I think its funny that the Scottish are moaning about the English taunting them with songs have u ever been to a Scottish football match and listened to some of the abusive songs the Scots come out with espeshely when playing an English team. So why can the Scots sing abusive songs to taunt the English but as soon as its the Other way round its so wrong.

Do you have a link to the Scottish folk getting into the fights with the singers over singing the song? Because ive not seen anything about that.

Football is always a bit different compared to the rest of society in terms of songs being sung and offensiveness (although i suspect Scottish fans tend to save the most offensive songs for their rivals in Scotland rather than the English). By comparision to football take something like the recent Commonwealth games - the English athletes were never booed in fact they usually got the second loudest cheer after the Scottish athletes!

That being said i do have a bit of a problem with God save the queen as an anthem. Id have the same problem with it if i was English too though!

God save the Queen as an anthem is dreadful. No wonder most of our national teams don't join in and sing it.

It isn't the tune, although that is bad enough, it IS the words. I wish them no harm but I'm not a supporter of the royal family. 'God save the Queen'...............I do not wish for any imaginary being to save any Queen, ours or otherwise.


Land of Hope and Glory, Jerusalem, There will always be an England, I Vow to Thee My Country or any other you can come up with would probably get more participation.
