Evening all

Ok the title should obviously be changing cassette!

The bike I'm looking at buying has a 12-25 dura ace rear cassette and Sram red group set other than that. My current wheels have an Sram 12-28 rear cassette which I'd like to keep, so would It be a simple case of switching the cassettes over?

Second question, looking at Scott frame sizing it seems to be pretty much as is, ie a 54cm frame is around 54cm as opposed to say a cannondale that is a size up? I've checked the frame dimensions against my current bike and they are very similar, I'm just wary of spending so much money on the wrong frame! I'm 5'9 with a 32" inside leg so 54cm looks to be fine.

Thanks for any advice

Rob

Yes  Gears may need indexing but that should be all IME.

FYI - my C'dale is the same size as any other modern road bike I've owned ;)

That's why LBS's are worth their weight in gold

Thank you for the replies!

My lbs doesn't stock the bike, it's the 2013 model with an rrp of £6k but is on offer at £3k. I've only been road cycling a few months but love it, always have done but have messed about with MTB when I was younger before I discovered my true calling on road bikes! I'm not one to upgrade bit by bit, I'd rather just take the pain and have the best I can afford.

Everything is in place, I'm just waiting for a decision tomorrow about my wife buying a business before I pay the deposit!

My mate has a F01L but I'm not sure which one. That said IIRC it might be a 20 as it was circa £2k when he got it a couple of years ago.

Anyway he absolutely loves it. He did have an issue with the seat clamp mechanism and ultimately had to have a new frame, but $hit happens right?, (I've had it twice on Focus bikes myself), and it certainly hasn't dampened his enthusiasm for the bike or the brand TBH.

Well it arrived today, is it normal on a mail order bike to have to fit the bars, stem, front calipers and seatpost/saddle? Was a pita to be honest.

Anyway all done now, though it need to remove the cassette tomorrow and change it temporarily for my 12-28 until I decide whether to go for a Sram Red cassette or not. The one fitted is a Dura Ace 11-25 so I want to sell it as brand new.

I weighed it, the claimed weight is 6.7kg and with bottle cages, Garmin and mount it came in bang on that.

I think, yes with mail order & as It comes in a box there is a certain amount of self fettling to be done to the bike.

That's a really light bike inc cages & Garmin, must be around UCI weight limit that.

I did the same & took off my Sram Force 11-25 cassette as soon as I got it home & replaced it for an 11-28.
Not got round to selling the 11-25 off yet though.

Maybe someone on the forum needs a Dura Ace cassette Rob.

Well because of all the rain I only managed to get out for a first test ride on it this evening, and it was pretty steady as I had a skinful last night!

First impressions, it's way stiffer than my other carbon bike, slightly harsher but feels bloody fast. I smashed my fastest speed on a segment, in around 10 attempts my maximum was 44mph - tonight I did 49.5mph! It feels as though power transfer is more direct.

On the final segment before I get home I also beat my best time by 1s and got 3rd on strava, even though I wasn't feeling 100% at all.

I know many people will say a bike doesn't make you faster, but where did I suddenly find over 5mph from on a segment I've ridden hard (it's called straight line blast for a reason!) everytime I've done it. No tailwind either, there never is on that segment!

Anyway I'm well chuffed with it, just given it a coat of C2V3 nano sealant that I use on my car and I'm off to Holmfirth/Holme Moss tomorrow morning :bicycle:

Holme Moss quite local for you @NorvernRob ??

If so then you are a lucky, lucky man come TdF time.

It's 25 miles from home, so local-ish. We're not watching it there though, it's going to be too mental.

Today's ride went amazingly well, 57 miles, over 5,000ft of climbing and I nailed every hill including Holme Moss in one hit :bicycle:

The new bike feels so good, it's only downside is that it's very harsh on potholed roads as it's so stiff. Worth it though for what you get everywhere else, I got off after 57 miles with no aches and no problems at all. It and me are getting another test next weekend, my first 100 mile ride in the Lincoln Arrow Sportive.
