Sea Scouts......asked to leave after 10 days. My mother wasn't too chuffed as she'd just forked out for the hat and one of those peculiar ribbed jumpers with patches on the elbows an shoulders.

God you must have been bad.

I was made to leave the cubs. After 2 yrs, I didn't even have my bronze arrow, as being a young republican, I refused to do a project on the royal family. My attempt getting a 'collecting' badge was 6 toy cars I picked up from around the house on my way out. They felt I wasn't taking it seriously enough. They were right. My priorities were playing for the footy team (on the right wing), and larking about.

I got lynched by a pack of cubs for squeaking my shoes during the lord's prayer. My irreverence started early. Still, it was enlightening to get beaten up by Christians.

I was up in Leeds at the time. We didn't have woggles, we had toggles, possibly turned from teak. Where is the woggle/toggle boundary?

I was a Wolfcub for about five months then a Cubscout with the 8th Bewdley pack, then for about two years as an aircub with the 21st Kidderminster pack. After moving down south I became to old for cubs and a major operation meant I didn't join the 23rd Romsey scout troop until I was about 12/13. Left after about two years as the District Commissioner upset my dad over leadership training.
Fastforward 35 years and I am an Officer with the 1st Hythe Company of the Boy's Brigade and last year recieved my 20 year badge.

Wolf cub. Seconder then sixer brilliant loved it. Akela was a fantastic woman called Mrs Jacobs. My dad told me recently she went on to become a commissioner of scouting of some sort.

Took the leaping Wolf into scouts but I think by that time I had been spoiled by the cubs. I didn't really like the scouts too much. In those days we wore the Baden Powell brimmed hat. Funnily enough I was at a dinner recently and found myself sat next to Micheal Baden-Powell, the great mans son or grandson I can't remember; he was in his seventies so probably grandson now I think about it.

It is great shame that the reputation of the scouting movement has become tarnished in recent times by the unpleasant activities of a minority.

Great organisation, very international too.

I've enjoyed the beavers also, my kids have all been in them. Was a cub then scout myself and got my cycling badge, turned up with a frame and wheels with the rest of the bike in a bag. Got it built though and the fun is still going.

I was in the Boys Brigade (or the Christian wing of the waffen SS, as we wittily called it) since they had a good footie team. I left when they said, if I wanted to start an atheist offshoot, it wasn't compatible to the ethos .

I always assumed that the Scouts weren't quite as religious?

[QUOTE 1698411, member: 1314"]I think the Scouts were more CofE types. Pray but no need to believe. They took me to church a few times.
