Campsite Warden for the local districts jointly owned campsite. 12 Years or thereabouts.

If you want a challenge/teambuilding exercise, try building a stretcher & then getting enough bodies to carry it 2 1/2 miles to the road at 1 in the morning. Scout on camp had his appendix burst. Diagnosed by a doctor who was with another group using the campsite.

Group that came to the rescue came from Failsworth(Lancashire Loonies).

I can't remember the name of my guides group ... perhaps 1st Priory? However I remember lots of great camps especially in Dorney Wood - where we did the normal sort of things such as creeping around the woods in the dark when we were supposed to be in bed, and taking tent pegs out until the tent fell down - in a Russian Roulette sort of way (the leader wasn't that impressed that her tent fell down:laugh:) .

I went to Harefield.
what year were you in when the schools all joined together?

[QUOTE 1698411, member: 1314"]I think the Scouts were more CofE types. Pray but no need to believe. They took me to church a few times.

Did you show her how to use your chopper, User?
I was in my school CCF, not the scouts - although, to cater for the girlie instinct, I played in the pipe and drum band. I've been a bit out of kilter ever since.

I went in 82 and I think we did two years as Harefield then the three schools joined so I would have been in third year but I might be wrong. One of my brothers was three years ahead in the fifth year. John Harris who writes for the Guardian now was in the year above me.

in that case so was i. i used to knock around with john harris but he became a bit pompous and, from what i've seen, hasn't changed a great deal. typical new labour in the making; left wing but living in a huge house with a swimming pool on knutsford road…

Lol. I used to wind him up, it wasn't hard. Remember him playing in his band the Immediate, supporting The Risk who were Jimmy Goodwin and Joe Roberts I knew quite a few people from your year, still see a few around Wilmslow although it is a bit of a transient town now with a significant minority of rather shallow people.
Presume you remember Tom Royles Cycles at the end of Knutsford Road which is now Royles run by Toms son at the Kings Arms. Don't think Tom was ever selling 6K Cervellos!
