So lovely hubby got me a 4k action cam for Christmas but I need to get an sd card for it? Are there specific ones for 4k cameras...there seems to be a big difference in prices. Any experiences lovely Cycle chatters?

The instruction manual will be the best bet for what it'll take, or mention the model and someone here will help.

What's the camera, as there are very few that are really 4k.

Either a 32gb or 64gb card are enough for a few hours of HD (more than the battery charge). Just get the usual well known makes, Class10 speed or higher

Samsung, sandisk, transend etc etc. The card speed does help.

Depending on your camera and use case you might be better running the camera 1080p but at a higher frame rate, like 60/120fps if it supports it, most 4k cameras are 4k@30fps and the frame rate means fast action isn't captured as well.

I'd go for the biggest memory you can afford and check that it's 4k compatible since camera may write to it at a speed it can't cope with.

Word of warning: Check what size memory card that the operating system of your computer can handle. I have a Windows 7 laptop at work that has no problems with my 16gb card from my old helmet cam but if I plug it into my ageing PC - still with XP:laugh:- it won't read it and crashes.

The higher the "class" of card the better as it can get the data stored quicker ( brutally simplistic I know )

there are a LOT of fake cards out there too especially high capacity SDXC

reputable suppliers are better than unknowns.

I paid £25 for a 128Gb card . it works well with the phone

Thanks all for the advice! I have splashed out a bit on a SanDisk at the highest meg so fingers crossed. Now I just have to figure out the best way to attach it to the bike with the many attachments it came with! None of which look particularly effective it has to be said!
