I saw a Cormorant this morning. Obviously not a gull.
But an interesting bird associated with the sea (a bit like *insert name of well-known female sailor here*)

But I saw it on a river.

I stopped on a bike ride to untangle two pigeons tangled in fishing line with a mad bag lady early one morning on the Thames just recently. She was holding them and accosted me to help her by removing her car keys from her jacket pocket and getting the pair of scissors out that she had in her glove compartment. It was, all in all, quite a surreal experience.

Sorry, not gulls again though.

We have hundreds of gulls (herring and common) all round here, and some of them are (mildly) radioactive

Hoopoes? We get those in the Lot, a bit further south. Seagulls? There must be some about, but not very noticeable.

Do you get Black Redstarts? Very common down south, they occupy the domestic ecological niche taken up by sparrows in the UK. Very distinctive call, they perch on rooftops and emit a sound rather like a ratchet clicking. Most un-birdlike. Unless your 'grey bird with red tail' means that, but the Black Redstart is more black than grey.

Yup, that's the one. It is a bit grey.

There must be town-living seagulls who never get to see the sea... possibly. Perhaps we should rename them...

No need. There is no such thing as a seagull. There are many varieties of gull, including Herring, Lesser and Greater Black Backed, and Black Headed, but no Sea Gull.

Plenty of gulls round my way, mostly Black Headed, which are common across the whole country.
