I love this time of the year. Last couple of weeks I have been garnering Nature's bounty from the hedgerows. It all started with a pound or so of wild damsons which are gently steeping in Gin. Next, the blackberries this year are like I've never seen. We had 8 jars of blackberry jam (now only 6.5....) two enormous blackberry and apple crumbles, with two portions of stewed bramley and bramble in the freezer. I have four bottles of bramble whisky steeping, a bottle of blackberry and apple gin, but today's find was an amazing hedgerow of blackthorns, with a couple of them absolutely laden with ripe sloes. I can't remember seeing them with a bloom on so early. Needless to say I now have three more bottles of sloe gin on the go. I've got my eye on one particular hedgerow near work which is laden with ripening elderberries. That'll be next week's task, elderberry jelly..... or I may make some wine. Anyone else been foraging?

My Granny used to say after a big haul like this years that it meant the winter would be bad. I do hope she is wrong.

Yeah done a bit, but not to your standard. I'm in awe!

You need to connect this to the Aldi £87 thread. They have the cheap gin to go with the fruit.

When are you inviting me over for a tasting? I'll bring hand crafted pies.
