Seat tube chain guard

Hi,

I took this off my bike when stripping it to repaint, off the seat tube, but I don't remember it's position.

It's a chain guard of sorts, but I can't see where it would be effective. I'll take a picture next time, but for now, any suggestions please.

It's a Deda Dog Fang. Fit it level with the smallest chainring and with 1mm clearance between the chain and the 'fang', pointing forwards. See discussion here.
