I think the cyclist is an idiot and will start off with that.
I would never come think to undertake this car considering there is a junction and the road design looks off. I'm not local and can see that, *presumable* the cyclist uses this section of road a lot
I personally wouldn't expect an indicator. It looks very much like the left lane is for the junction run off to go left. As round the corner it does not look like it can support duel lanes. It looks like a forward run off. An indicator would help for clarity. Although once the cyclist started the undertake it leaves only a little blinker for him to see, I doubt he would notice its that insignificant.
Naturally this is a red flag for me and one reason out of many not to undertake.
I don't understand to concept of the undertake either, if anything it places you in a terrible position to either go over the bumper or me pushed to the kerb and stuck behind the parked cars.
I argue the its lucky the driver was competent enough to check for him. Maybe i'm wrong. Naturally the op thinks hes right.
Maybe i'm wrong myself however what do you guys think?

I think you hit the nail on the head- pointless undertake putting him into a cr*p riding position, he then couldn't allow for the driver to manoeuvre within signalling (drivers fault but hardly crime of the century) and then making a big ho ha instead of admitting he was in a silly place.
Had he been a bit more patient and just gone with the flow of traffic it would never have happened and everyone lives could have carried on.

Even if the car was following the road to the right, I'd say there wasn't room to go up the inside at that point. Had the cyclist been ahead and the car came that close even if following the road round, I reckon there'd be an argument for the car being too close. Can't have it both ways.

Poor cycling, little wrong with the car driving IMHO

I wouldn't have done what the cyclist did.

Cyclist didnt read the situation in advance, and if the cyclist was a local/regular on that route, e needs his ass kicking for what was very foreseeable and likely.
Still not excusing that the driver didnt check before turning and without indication.

6 of one etc.

Agreed with above poster it's clear to hang back to see what the car driver is going to do I never attempt an overtake at a junction for this reason but also I would expect clear indication from the car but not expect it

For the sake of accuracy: it was not an overtake, it was an undertake.

if he had overtaken there would have been no problem

Debatable as if the car didn't go left the only thing the cyclist is going to encounter on a overtake is the body of the car as it turns right. Only viable option is to hang back.
