I'm doing a project/proof of concept about finding secure bike parking in London.

I've created a public Google map and have started photographing and adding cycle parking, I need help from other people to add locations (and I'm also interested to see if this idea has legs).

The map can be found here:

If you've got any comments about this project, I'd love to hear them.

Link doesn’t work?

There’s a place in Soho you can pay for

And whether it’s free or paid for. And how is secure defined and guaranteed. Are these carparks say with CCTV and security guards or facilities like the H2 one in Soho?

All good points. My main aim was to document where bike racks were (so not just lamp posts railings) but I can see it'd also be useful to identify specific 'secure' places with cctv etc, like at train stations.

I’d say a rack is no more secure. I’m pretty sure tfl or similar already have those documented to some degree

Indeed LCC do so you’ll be duplicating a prior effort to some degree but they are looking for help to make it more comprehensive (is yours on behalf of LCC)

I think fully secure parking is probably an oxymoron for most in London (even with the best d locks) unless you can access a fully manned and gated carpark and even then

I had seen the LCC one but it's not at all useful when you're out and about - there's no app and the web version is clunky on mobile.

Def take your point about my use of "secure".

In most of central London there are stands all over, whether you can park on a weekday during rush hour is another matter

Have you suggested an App to TFL or LCC? Is it an App you’re developing?

Have fun with your endeavour

Thanks Vickster. An app would be the end-game but am testing and gauging interesting from other cyclists first - this has been helpful!

Project brief needs to include key definitions (see post above) to encourage quality inputs from cyclists (eg on here).
I failed to photograph either of the 3 cycle storage sites in Breda (ground level, controlled, attended access) - link to one here:

Here's the Westminster map:

And here's the TfL site: https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/cycling/cycling-in-london/cycle-parking
