curious as to people's best ideas for securing upto 4 adult bikes in a van. I have a couple of small ratchet straps and foam but wondered if anyone had come across any ingenious devices on the market they can recommend

Is it big enough for them to stand up fully assembled? If so, you could make the equivalent of a roof rack on the floor.

I bought two fork clamps and bolted them to a plank.

Seen that done before as well at a trail centre, van with a good 6 or so bikes in the back, and plenty of spare room. Used a wooden frame with home made fork clamps to hold them all. I remember it quite well as it seemed like such a bloody good idea.

Bungee cords!

Stand the bikes next to each other with alternate bikes facing in opposite directions so the bars on one rest on the saddle of the next. Pull the bikes together and lash to the side of the van with bungees.

I always carry a long bungee cord when taking my bike by train. I used a similar technique with @Littgull's bike and mine on the way back from nickyboy's Scarborough ride on Saturday.

I have a couple of new ratchet straps, small, from work and just ordered some 30" & 18" bungee cords off Amazon for now and then look into the fork clamp idea too

Ive got a transporter and find that its easiest to put the bikes in front wheel first turned 90 degrees to the frame. Push the handle bar flush to the back seats and secure with a bungee cord around the head rests. If you've not got anyone sitting in the back, the bars will hook over the seats. Old duvets put between the bikes stop any scratching.
