The things you can get on ebay. Storage might be a problem.

Which is why they probably wouldn't just sell it to anyone without proof of where it will be kept. The transportation costs alone will be big.

Personally, I'd buy it, but

A. I don't have the money

and

B. I would need a railway somewhere to keep it.

do you think they would send it by rail

Pah! are you kidding?? they can hardly send a peanut by rail these days. It is like everything on the railways, it is either prohibitively expensive, OR it has been strangled by so much Health And Safety red tape that it was killed years ago

Some preservation groups do move things by rail, but it is part of either a freight train or a large group of other locos going to the same location (different groups chip in for the cost).

No, there are 2 or 3 specialised Railway road hauliers in the country, such as Alleys, and they do most of it. Even the hauliers will not let something be moved without proof that it is going to a legitimate location.

It's cheaper to send rolling stock by road than by rail. I've often come across rolling stock, ancient and modern, being moved around the country on low loaders.

It's also awaiting boiler work so add a decent amount onto the buying price.

Nice little engine though; hope it finds a good home

These things rarely get scrapped these days - they are too valuable for that.

Yes, the likes of Alleys and ....erm ....what's the other one again? Those are both hauliers that specialise in moving railway stock.

Heanor, that's it, thanks!

Alleys and Heanor are the two main specialised railway stock haulage companies.

As I say, they will not just move something to make money, they do research into each move beforehand (not just the location, but the route, etc) and have been about for long enough to know when someone is taking the piss - they show concern for where the train will end up.

There's a house on the Thames path near Henley that has a line like that running all around the (massive) garden: -
