We have all at some point either had a bike stolen or had something stolen off a bike (lucky people might not have experienced this).
So when I went to unlock my bike at college today and go home, I noticed that one of my rear lights was missing. I had a search around incase I had knocked it off, but I couldnt find it anywhere. So I concluded that someone had stolen it.

Now, what is so strange about this theft is that I have 4 lights on the back, and 5 on the front. So why did the thief not take the others? And why did they choose to take one of the cheap LED ones and not one of the more expensive ones?

In terms of the thief themselves, there was one other bike in the (so called) secure bike cages. A bike which is there every Thursday and has always gone before I go home. The bike cages require a key that you can only get from the Estates department and you have to be a member of staff.

So I now have four options of how the theft took place.
  1. The person who owned the other bike had no rear light and decided to 'borrow' one of mine seeing as I had plenty already on my bike.
  2. The person who owned the other bike left the gate open for some time and a opportunistic person only managed to snatch one light.
  3. Another cyclist arrived after me, and left before me and was in the same position as point number 1.
  4. Someone had managed to get a key from the estates department for the sole purpose of access to the bike cages.
I can rule out point 4 by ringing the college tomorrow and finding out if someone got a key today and returned it the same day.
I can also possibly solve the case by leaving a polite note to the owner of the other bike the next time I am in college.

The mystery will be solved...

Or, as it was one of the cheaper LED lights it had bounced off the bike whilst you were en-route somewhere and you didn't notice. Well, it's a theory!

I'm going with no. 5, though I did once have both front and rear lights pinched off my bike while it was in the bike cage. Bastards!

This is an option but an unlikely one. Bearing in mind when I locked the bike up in the morning, all the lights were still on it.

Someone once smeared curry sauce all over my bike.
I dont think that was curry sauce.
