The owner of the other bike has contacted me.

Hi

Thanks for your note and really sorry to hear that your light has gone walkies.

I have just checked with reception for you to see whether any lights might have been handed in, but nothing has.

tell me...

What date did it go missing?
What sort of light and make was it?

I will report this on your behalf and we will see if we can get the locks/keys changed over.

I will keep you updated.

Regards

Clare
My response:
Hi

Thanks for the info Claire.

The light went missing on the 17th. Other people have said that it might have fallen off but I am certain it was still on my bike when I locked the gates in the morning. I only wanted to contact you and ask if you had seen anything because your bike was the only other one there that day. I thought that someone might have sneaked in when you had your back turned or if you had seen anything suspicious.

The light was a rear LED Cateye. What surprised me was that I actually had 4 on the back and 5 on the front that day. So I have no idea why only one was taken. The lights isnt of the highest value but I commute along unlit country roads so I just wanted to be extra safe by having loads of lights. Hopefully it can be of use to someone though.

Thanks for getting back to me anyway.

Matt
And before anyone says, yes I know I spelt her name wrong.

Do you know how scared I am of being hit on an unlit country road with 70mph+ traffic in the middle of winter? Thats one major concern about the ride to work.
Blimey, the traffic was going 60mph+ a few posts ago, and now 70mph+. Have they resurfaced the roads or something. Or perhaps it was your light that fell off and now everyone can see where they are going:whistle:

Are any ofthe student's moonlighting?

It could be a student with negotiable virtues who needed a red light to set up their business?

Or alternatively a "cascade effect"

Someone has nicked / lost their light, sees another on a bike just down the road so lifts itto replace theirs. Only needing one would explain why the rest were left

God is this thread still running. Time to take a long walk down the end of the field with a shot gun and call it a day.
