I dunno, tape would just come off after a while...
If this was my coat, I'd probably darn that, as it'd give a longer-lasting repair. See if you can get some heavyweight upholstery type thread, as ordinary sewing thread won't hack it.
You can buy clear, reinforced tape a bit like gaffer tape but transparent. I think you can get it at B&Q, Homebase and so on. I bought some years ago to repair a torn kite. It was good stuff.
I've just had a delivery of these patches for my goretex jacket (I crashed and ripped the shoulder). Used them on tent material before but not clothing. They do a tape as well.
Hemming tape looks as if it needs 2 pieces of material.
The Gorrila tape and clear reinforced tape both seem a bit industrial.
Alpkit looks promising
And last but not least darning is a good idea, something I can’t do and won’t ask my wife at present as she is very stressed trying to get her mother into a care home. So many hoops to jump through; a request for darning will have severe consequences!
I will try the Zip Yard which close by.
It’s great to know that help is alway at hand at CC.
Zip Yard have completed a very neat repair. They unpicked the whole seam and re-sewed it slightly smaller/tighter and the worn sections are no more. A much simpler, neater repair than my “stick something over it” approach. And cheaper £9.50 for both sleeves and completed in less than a day.
