It's so hard to fill in my self-appraisal form at work.

I'm asked to rate myself (I'm not quite sure why) on a number of criteria like
'constantly searches for ways to increase customer satisfaction'

If I'm honest, last Saturday I was reading the paper while sitting on the crapper and I briefly stopped searching. And I don't do it in my sleep either. Do they mean just in work hours? even so- if I have a thought like 'what's for lunch today?' would that mean I've failed to constantly search? Same if I have to think about what to write on my self-appraisal form.

Not sure whether to call HR or just write 'yes' in the box.

'sets high standards of performance and exceeds them'

Gah!

It's all a pile o'shite, isn't it. Meaningless, completed, then shoved in a virtual filing cabinet and forgotten about.
Mind you, 'big yourself up' a bit, you never know what tricks employers might use to lower wages, get rid of people.

Yep. Just a job creation scheme for the HR department. Same can be said for CV's. Load of tosh.

Used to have rows with a fairly recent boss over my P.A. I was hardly going to say my performance was anything other than excellent, was I?
There was never more than 1 or 1.5 percent on the table for anyone so I think they took it all much too seriously, a possible reason for their sadly early demise.

My boss knows I'm good so he lets me just get on with my job. Why do people have to think that they need constant pushing and direction to do their job. Lets face it, most jobs can be done by most people.

You’re in a desert walking along in the sand when all of the sudden you look down, and you see a tortoise, Tony, it’s crawling toward you. You reach down, you flip the tortoise over on its back, Tony. The tortoise lays on its back, its belly baking in the hot sun, beating its legs trying to turn itself over, but it can’t, not without your help. But you’re not helping. Why is that?

I'm not sure when my next appraisal is due, but as we all know I'll be leaving sometime next summer, I'm not sure how important it is...

It was my appraisal (more precisely, the week or so between receiving the forms and my appraisal) that put me back on the happy pills. I mean, I know I'm doing alright - I can do the work, and the firm's small enough that the partners will tell me if I've done something wrong - but it was just the uncertainty. Next time, they'll make sure there's not so much of a gap. :hugs:
